Small Arms Munitions Factory

Approval for Expansion of Small Arms Manufacturing

The Lithgow Small Arms Factory opened on 8 June 1912, initially manufacturing rifles and bayonets for the Australian military during World War I. Performing an important role in the Lithgow economy, this $4 million investment in manufacturing will deliver an advanced manufacturing hub for the precision manufacture of next generation Australian designed weapon systems. It will integrate traditional precision manufacturing and digital technologies, including 3D printing, and the installation of automated electro-plating and other metal treatment capabilities.
